Wine King

Wine King

Winona x America, TVM 1898

With a name like Wine King, we assume that T.V. Munson thought that this grape might produce an exceptional wine. The juice from these grapes is exceptionally dark. The fruit can hang on the vine from ripening to frost–often a month or more.

Vine Characteristics

  • This extremely vigorous and leafy vine is completely resistant to phylloxera, rot, and mildew.

  • An abundance of suckers develop at the head of each vine from early to late spring, requiring more time to bud thin than most of our other varietals.

Winemaker’s Notes

  • The essence of Labrusca tends to linger on the latter half of Wine King’s palette.

  • Robust yet tender pulp with a thinner skin.

  • An ample amount of medium purple, fermented juice can be extracted after maceration.
