Armlong x Malaga, TVM 1902

Munson named this grape after his wife. A Lincecumii-Labrusca-vinifera hybrid, Munson described Ellen Scott wine as, “unexcelled as a dessert variety, even among foreign kinds.”

Vine Characteristics

  • Vigorous.

  • Shield shaped leaf with slightly rounded triangular teeth.

  • Shouldered, long, medium sized clusters with medium sized berries.

  • Fruit ripens from pink to translucent lavender color.

  • Highly susceptible to Phomopsis but otherwise good disease resistance.

  • Low cold tolerance.

  • Difficult to propagate.

Winemaker’s Notes

  • Press juice has no color.

  • Excessive attempts at extraction have proven to show minimal rosy hues, yet worth the effort as it is quite beautiful.

  • Tart like a Riesling.

  • Nice peachy aroma.

  • Easy wine.

  • Nothing overbearing in any way.

  • Excellent pH, lower alcohol, and good acidity.

  • Exceptional chemistry.

  • Shows best in a reductive winemaking style.
